Top 6 Events in Canyon this November

This is a college town with much to offer, but it is not the largest community. It’s close enough, though, to a number of nearby attractions and events. For those that are attending the West Texas A&M University and living in the area, take a few minutes to check out what there is to do this month. November brings with it slightly cooler temps, but that does not have to slow you down.

Take a Hip Hop Dance Lesson

Did you know that F1RSTGEN is putting on a Hip Hop Dance Session? This is an instructor-led event that happens on campus on November 10th from 6 pm to 7 pm. It takes place in the VHAC Ballroom. There are refreshments available. If you have always wanted to learn or you just want an excuse to have some fun for an hour, this is the place to be. It is an easy way to let off some stress and learn a few things about hip hop while you are at it.

Plan a Trip to the Canyon

While the temperatures are cooler, it may be one of the best times to check out Palo Dura Canyon State Park. It’s located in Canyon. It’s the second-largest canyon in the U.S. Bring along some hiking gear so you can travel along the various paths. It’s a full 80 miles, so you don’t want to do the whole trip unless you have a few days to do so. Still, there’s fishing and lots of wildlife in the area. You can go geocaching here, enjoy the equestrian trails if you like horseback riding, or fall in love with the beautiful backdrop.

Participate in National Take a Hike Day

National Take a Hike Day is Monday, November 15th. For college students, there may not be a better reason to get outside and into nature before the cooler weather hits. When you are considering doing so, be sure to stop by the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership at the college. There’s a current raffle happening that allows students to win a backpack, WT gear, compass, and a hydro flask. There’s even a first aid kit included. Then, plan to visit one of the local hiking trails in the area to have some fun.

Invest in Your Future Financial Health

Another event to consider attention occurs over two boot camp sessions. Money Management Bootcamp is actually six weeks long, starting November 16th from 4:30 to 5:30. Those who attend the event are able to learn a great deal about money management and planning, including how to create a plan for money, student loans, overcoming financial obstacles, and saving money while in college. It is geared towards college students and isn’t a boring course at all. It takes place each week in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center. For those who are looking for an event that is going to help them prepare for their future, this is perhaps one of the best to choose.

Take In the Latest Exhibits at the Museum

Do college students enjoy museums? They may when they can provide a solid foundation for their studies and offer some outstanding art exhibits. The Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is worth a visit this November. There are plenty of things happening that make this an excellent way to spend some time.
